The long, sticky Pennsylvania summer

This summer has been brutally hot. That might stop some people from going outside or drive some people to escape the heat by going to the beach, but me? I prefer my hot, sticky city summers. When the weather is at its worst is my favorite time to be here, in the overgrown, green-by-accident rectangular blocks of Philadelphia. Pennsylvania holds a special charm in the summer. I’ve never quite been able to figure out what it is or why, but I can only describe the feeling as lazy. Many of the best memories I have of the past 5-10 years revolve around drinking cheap beer during Pennsylvania summers and the wonderful feeling I get watching dusk settle over the red brick landscapes of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. I haven’t made it out to Pittsburgh this summer and probably am not going to. In fact, this summer was busier than most because of delayed plans after last year’s COVID summer, but nonetheless I’ve managed to squeeze in a handful of photographs which I feel capture the feeling I get during summer in this city. I hope they make you feel something, too.
